The path to Mnambe Waterfall on Mount Kilimanjaro is a beautiful hike through villages, forest, banana fields, and coffee farms with expansive views of the land below. The waterfall itself is the highest on the mountain outside of Kilimanjaro National Park. At the falls, you can wade in and go for a swim, enjoy a relaxing picnic, and take in the natural beauty of the falls. If you want to make the most of your time on the mountain, it is possible to do a coffee tour and see Mnambe Waterfall in one day.
Lake Chala is a pristine crater lake in a volcanic caldera near the eastern edge of Mount Kilimanjaro. Fed from groundwater flows from the mountain, the lake has clean and clear blue-green waters safe for swimming. You can visit Chala for just a day, swimming and hiking, or opt to stay overnight, camping along the crater rim.
Located between Moshi and Arusha, the hot springs are a hidden oasis and difficult to find without a guide. Shaded by beautiful trees and palms, the water is crystal blue and perfect for swimming and relaxing. Sometimes you can see troops of monkeys passing through the canopy above. You can visit for just the day or camp overnight for a longer getaway.
Amboni Caves are a lovely day excursion from Pangani or Tanga. The most extensive limestone caves in East Africa, the caves date back 150 million years and were formed during the Jurassic period. They were underwater until 20 million years ago and cover an underground area of about 234 square kilometers. On a tour you will learn about the geologic history as well as local lore surrounding the caves.
